A new series of vibrant abstract art painted on Cigar Boxes.

I wanted to contribute to a charity show for Save-A-Pet at a local gallery here, Venus Gallery in Palm Desert.  The subject was “Pets” and all pieces had to be of animals.  Having recently become vegan it was even more meaningful for me to contribute.  They also had a pet food drive at the same time so a great benefit to our beautiful animals.  I wanted to make the pieces super affordable – so I decided to paint on cigar boxes, using them as my canvas.

My gorgeous husband just happens to sell cigars and all I had to do was walk into our garage where there was a huge selection of cigar boxes to choose from.  My husband usually donates these used cigar boxes to school art departments.

I just fell in love with the colorful borders which create a natural frame, look at how vibrant they are and with a gloss varnish on the finished box, they really look stunning.

They were very well received at the show and several were purchased on the night and 100% of the money collected went to Save-A-Pet.

I then went on to painting wooden cigar boxes with trees and a bright abstract one too (had to do it!  after all abstracts are my first love!).  I left these boxes open with no hanging hardware so that people could use them as treasure boxes or a place to put knick knacks.

Everyone I know loves a box that you can put things in, people just love boxes period.  I have always admired artists who carve beautiful wood boxes and inlay different woods into them.

Finally, I found this luscious vibrant green glossy cigar box that was just crying out for a vibrant abstract and could not resist so here it is.

Now that will wake you up!!  These are just a selection of my little series on cigar boxes.  Such fun and now I need to go back to painting on large canvases as I prefer to work big rather than small.

Hope you enjoyed this series.  I have just posted a few of them.  You can see more on my website www.VanessaKatzArt.com or connect with me on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/AbstractArt4U.  See you there.  Happy Painting or Collecting.
